Taking Ownership of Your Stuff

We own much more in life than the things we choose

I have found that the Bible is loaded with surprising statements. Most of them fall under the ‘Oh, that was harsh!’category, and others would be part of the ‘I want some of that’ heading. Here is one:

I don’t want to hear any of you bragging about yourself or anyone else. Everything is already yours as a gift — Paul, Apollos, Peter, the world, life, death, the present, the future — all of it is yours, and you are privileged to be in union with Christ, who is in union with God. 1 Corinthians 3:21–22 The Message

All things are ours

So what does the term ‘all things’ refer to? Paul, Apollos, and Peter were the Big 3 of the day, in terms of having a message of hope that seemed relevant to the age. Their message belonged to the people. Next it is the world and everything in their own sphere of experience. Life itself is next on the list, with all the ups and downs associated with living on this planet. Even death made the list, with all of its uncertainty, mixed with the assurance of faith. According to this Bible passage, all of these things are ours, even the present and the future.

So, we take ownership. We accept that which is given to us, both the good and bad, and claim it as our own. Then, like a good owner, we become good…
